UPDATE: Man arrested for alleged sexual assaults in South Lake Tahoe in US illegally

A Nevada man accused of sexually assaulting minors in South Lake Tahoe is in the country illegally.

That’s according to additional information provided by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department Tuesday morning.

Sergio Antonio Recendiz-Rodriguez was arrested on multiple charges of sexual battery on minors under the age of 14 on Friday, Jan. 25.

The alleged crimes occurred the Goodwill store in South Lake Tahoe. Recendiz-Rodriguez was not an employee at the store.

Police told the Tribune he worked as a carpenter in the area.

“SLTPD would like to thank Goodwill and their employees for the tremendous amount of help we got from them,” the police department said in a statement Tuesday. “It was their quick response and assistance that allowed us to identify this suspect.”

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has issued a detainer for Recendiz-Rodriguez.

The investigation is ongoing.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — A Gardnerville man was arrested after authorities say he was identified as a suspect in multiple sexual assaults on minors.

Sergio Antonio Recendiz-Rodriguez was arrested Friday, Jan. 25, about one week after the South Lake Tahoe Police Department initiated its investigation, Sgt. Travis Cabral told the Tribune.

He was arrested on multiple charges of sexual battery on minors under the age of 14.

The alleged incidents all occurred in the same day at a retail business in South Lake Tahoe. Citing an ongoing investigation, Cabral declined to identify the business by name. Recendiz-Rodriguez did not work at the business.

Cabral also declined to comment on whether there are additional allegations in which Recendiz-Rodriguez is a suspect.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Cabral said.

Recendiz-Rodriguez, who lives in Gardnerville, Nevada and works as a carpenter in the South Lake Tahoe area, does not have any similar incidents in his criminal history, according to Cabral.
