Nevada Opera meets its goal

RENO (AP) ” The Nevada Opera will live to sing another day, thanks to donations from the Reno community.

The opera company said last month that it needed to raise $100,000 to stay afloat or face possible bankruptcy.

Opera association president Randi Thompson says that with a challenge donation of $50,000, the group has exceeded its goal with $165,000 and $20,000 more in pledges.

The opera will now proceed with a production of “La Boheme” in April.

Board members put out a call for donations at a town hall meeting in January.
