Nevada QB Fajardo WAC freshman of year

RENO, Nev. (AP) – Nevada quarterback Cody Fajardo has been named the Western Athletic Conference freshman of the year.

Fajardo led the WAC with a 71.4 percent completion rate. He didn’t become the Wolf Pack’s starter until the fifth game but accounted for more than 2,300 yards of offense and 17 touchdowns.

He threw for 1,647 yards and six TDs and ran for another 680 yards and 11 scores.

Four Nevada players made the all-WAC first team announced Monday, including: defensive tackle Brett Roy, who led the league in sacks (10) and tackles for loss (18.5); wide receiver Rishard Matthews, who led the WAC in receptions (91) and receiving yards (1,364); offensive guard Chris Barker and cornerback Isaiah Frey.

Juniors Jeff Nady, an offensive tackle, and Duke Williams, strong safety, made the second team.
