Nevada seniors honor Reid

Patrick McCartney

A Nevada seniors group has named U.S. Sen. Harry Reid the group’s Humanitarian of the Year.

Older Americans of the 21st Century gave Reid the award at its first Aging Awareness Luncheon in Sparks.

Reid was selected for his work with the Senate Special Committee on Aging, and his support for senior programs in Nevada, including Foster Grandparents and Senior Companion Program.

Representatives of senior programs throughout the state participated in the selection.

“I am honored to be the first recipient of this prestigious award,” Reid said. “Older Nevadans are some of the Silver State’s most precious resources. I am constantly relying on their experience, their wisdom and their commitment.”

The two-term senator is seeking re-election this year, and will face Las Vegas Rep. John Ensign in the fall.
