New Alzheimer support group to meet

Elder Options, in conjunction with the Alzheimer’s Association of Northern Nevada, has started an Alzheimer’s Support Group at South Lake Tahoe. The support group will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Senior Center. The first meeting will be Sept. 13 in the annex room.

Dealing with the life adjustments of caring for someone diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other related disorders can feel frightening, frustrating or even overwhelming. Anyone going through this life transition will inevitably have questions about planning for the future, paying for care, legal matters, their own emotional reactions and what to expect next.

The support group will offer members of the community struggling with these issues a place to come share their experiences, release tension, learn some effective coping strategies from one another and get accurate and relevant information.

The Alzheimer’s Support Group is free of charge and open to all family members, care givers and friends of Alzheimer’s patients. For more information or to be added to the mailing list for monthly newsletters call Elder Options at (530) 541-1812.
