New gallery hosts reception

Provided to the Tribune

The Tahoe Art League and Barton Hospital Foundation invite the community to attend a reception from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at the hospital. The event will celebrate the completion of the renovation revealing Barton Hospital’s Healing Design and the new Snowflake Gallery.

Barton staff members will offer guided tours of the Healing Design and everyone will have an opportunity to meet artists from the Tahoe Art League and learn more about the exhibit. Appetizers, desserts and beverages will be provided by Barton Foundation.

When renovations began at Barton last year the standing art collection was stored for safekeeping.

“The ‘missing pieces’ served to highlight the positive impact artwork has in the hospital setting,” said Laura Rasmussen, a photographer and board member of TAL.

That’s when the idea came up to explore the possible mutual benefits of combining some efforts of the organizations. Barton Foundation Executive Director Linda Thompson brain-stormed with Rasmussen and the result is the Snowflake Gallery.

The artwork in the Snowflake Gallery is for viewing and is also available for purchase. Each artist will donate 20 percent of proceeds to the Barton Foundation and the listed price includes sales tax. For more information contact the Barton Foundation Health Resource Center Monday through Friday at (530) 543-5614.
