New operator approved for Fallen Leaf Lake store and marina

Staff Report

A new operator for the Fallen Leaf Lake store and marina was approved at a special meeting of the lake’s Community Services District earlier this month.

On April 10, the district’s board of directors awarded a contract to operate the lake’s concessions to Rob and Sandy Wirth.

Rick Firkins, the owner of All Star Catering, was awarded a contract to operate the store on Feb. 7, but withdrew Feb. 22 after seeing the level of division that exists in the community over the operation of the service.

Members of the Fallen Leaf Lake community have engaged in heated arguments about who should operate the lake’s store and marina since the community services district board began considering changes in April 2009.

John and Ruth Rich of Fallen Leaf Landing, operated the store and marina for 14 years prior to the board denying the couple a new contract in February.
