New parking garage at Kahle area

A three-story parking garage is being built next to the Douglas County Administration Building at Kahle Drive and U.S. Highway 50.

Construction of the $3.1 million project began two weeks ago. It is expected to open spring next year.

The garage will provide 215 stalls for the administration building, which contains the Sheriff’s Office, Tahoe Justice Court, Department of Motor Vehicles and general services. It will also create parking for Kahle Community Center and a commercial and business complex that is being built east of the garage.

The garage will have access on the top level to a new road that will tie it to an existing overflow parking lot at the community center. It will also have an entrance on the ground floor that flows directly to Highway 50.

“We’re hoping to get most of the construction done before the snow,” said Scott McCullough, Douglas County project manager.

The garage is being built by TNT Construction, a Reno company.
