New top executives are a win for Horizon

Tribune Staff Report

Two casino executives from the Wimar Tahoe Corp. have gone on to new horizons – by joining the Horizon Casino Resort.

Horizon Vice President/General Manager Howard Reinhardt and Executive Director of Hotel Operations Ronald Spence started last week at the Stateline casino.

“They come with a great deal of experience, and this is very positive for the Horizon,” said Sandy Hoy, director of marketing for the Horizon.

Former vice president/general manager Ron McKenzie and former executive director of hotel operations Al Zajic decided to move on to other things, according to Hoy.

Both Reinhardt and Spence have worked for Wimar Tahoe Corp. – the company owning the Horizon – for a several years.

Reinhardt previously was the vice president/general manager at the company’s Mississippi property Lighthouse Point Casino. However, he is familiar with Lake Tahoe and its casinos. He worked from 1973 to 1987 at Lake Tahoe casinos, including Harveys. His first casino job was in fact at the Horizon – as a dishwasher.

“I’ve gone from washing the dishes to eating off them,” Reinhardt said.

The new executive said he is happy to be back in Tahoe. He loves the lake, the snow and “the clean fresh air.”

Reinhardt said he is still getting settled in but said he looks forward to the work ahead.

“I’ve been here a week, and I’m pretty much just getting my feet wet,” he said. “I’m really glad to be back in Tahoe, and I’m looking forward to being the general manager at the Horizon.”
