Prescribed fire near Cave Rock
Today the U.S. Forest Service begins small-scale burning of wood piles near the Hidden Woods neighborhood. Travelers along Highway 50, residents and visitors can expect to see periodic smoke from the project area on Tahoe’s East Shore over the next few days.
The work is part of the cooperative Hidden Woods Project to reduce risks to communities from catastrophic wildfire.
About two acres will be burned each day until the project is completed. Weather conditions and crew status may also affect how long the project lasts.
