A 4 percent salary increase for some employees in Douglas County School District among changes to certain policies will be addressed today at a board of trustees meeting at Kingsbury Middle School at 3:30 p.m.

Salary increases, upon board approval, would be given to support staff leaders such as head custodians, lead librarians and other staff members such as secretaries for administrators.

A 4 percent pay increase was given to bus drivers, other support staff personnel and teachers this fiscal year.



A new bus garage for Whittell High School is in the consent agenda while staff at Zephyr Cover Elementary School will give a status report on its school improvement plan.

Skier died from a head injury



A 27-year-old man died from a blunt-force trauma head injury as a result of skiing accident Friday at Squaw Valley USA.

According to the Washoe County Coroner’s Office, Kelsey Brown suffered the fatal head injury May 10. A “standard investigation” is being conducted, according to Savannah Cowley, spokeswoman for Squaw Valley Ski Corp.

According to a statement released by Squaw, Brown suffered the injury while in the Mainline area. A supervisor radioed ski patrol at approximately 12:45 p.m. Ski patrol was on the scene immediately and rendered aid until Care Flight paramedics arrived.

Brown was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center in Reno, where he died.
