An Internet safety course designed for parents, with lessons on popular social networking Web sites such as myspace.com and programs such as Xbox Live will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic School, 1081 Lyons Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe. The presentation is free and open to all parents. Parents are asked to leave their children at home.

A law enforcement officer will speak about the Internet, particular Web sites and programs and how online predators are targeting children.

Tourism district names directors

The board of directors for the South Lake Tahoe Tourism Business Improvement District spearheaded by the lodging community is as follows: Hans Hansen of Avalon Lodge; Linda Traylor of 3 Peaks Resort; Bill Cottrill of Embassy Suites; Lisa Underwood of Tahoe Keys Resort and Jerry Bindel of Lakeland Village.

The result of the vote from lodging announced last week marks the first group who will steer the district as it collects money for tourism efforts run by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. The agency now managing a $2.4 million budget runs the Blue World promotional campaign.

The to-be imposed assessment to pay for such efforts beginning Nov. 1 amounts to $2 per room, per night for hotel guests and $3 for vacation home renters.

This district was intended to replace the now-defunct, city-spawned Tourism Promotion Business Improvement District, which failed to materialize when it reached an impasse by its board.
