News briefs: Fights at STHS; chamber meeting, callers for Obama

Several fights broke out at South Tahoe High School on Thursday, according to South Lake Tahoe police Sgt. Josh Adler.

Officers took six female juveniles into custody, and they were taken to the Juvenile Treatment Center, Adler said.

Police Capt. Martin Hewlett said officers responded to the first call from the high school at 9:47 a.m.



Adler said the circumstances still are under investigation.

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce will host a board meeting with two guest speakers Monday.

The speakers include Doug Ose, who is running for the 4th District congressional seat, and Steve Bailey, who is running to replace retiring South Lake Tahoe Superior Court Judge Jerald Lasarow.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Alpine Room at the Horizon Casino Resort.

Supporters of presidential candidate Barack Obama are invited to a gathering at 4 p.m. Sunday to call voters in Texas to remind them about the Democratic primary taking place there March 4.

The event will take place at 309 Paiute Drive in Round Hill.

The “Yes We Can” Obama party is being organized by MoveOn.org, and similar events are expected to take place Sunday across the country.
