News Briefs: Seat belt enforcement; chamber meeting; Barton board

Motorists in the state line area might want to make extra sure they’re buckled up on Friday night, when South Lake Tahoe police and CHP officers will be conducting a seat belt checkpoint.

The enforcement will take place near the corner of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and Pioneer Trail from about 7 to 11 p.m.

The checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and is part of the statewide Click It or Ticket Campaign that’s running from May 12 to June 1.

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce board meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Horizon Casino Resort.

The chamber board will meet from 6:30 to 7 p.m., and the chamber member meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

Four new board members were elected to the Barton Memorial Hospital Association Board of Directors.

As of May 22, Robert Chester, Chuck Scharer, Dena Schwarte and Dr. Mike Nussdorfer will serve on the board for the next three years. The election was held April 25, and out of the 266 active memberships, 163 voted in the election.
