Next class fund-raising breakfast Sept. 11
August 31, 2005
Breakfast eaters with an appetite for helping students ensured the California-assisted Class Size Reduction for first-graders with their donation in August.
With a three-year goal to continue the program, the Lake Tahoe Education Foundation will continue its fund raising with its monthly breakfast at Passaretti’s Italian Restaurant on Emerald Bay Road. Proceeds from meals served Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon will go to LTEF.
“We are now working to provide matching funds for the next two years,” LTEF President Brooke Laine said. “Our annual membership funds along with Passaretti breakfast proceeds and special events like the July Food Fest will assure the success of our commitment.”
The group donated $80,000, which allowed the Lake Tahoe Unified School District to qualify for Class Size Reduction for its first-graders. The district provided enough funding for its second-graders and half of the kindergarteners.
The fund-raiser breakfast is served the second Sunday of each month. On the menu this month is eggs Benedict and fresh banana compote pancakes.
“The monthly breakfast brunch is a real community affair,” Birgit Lukins said. “Everyone is smiling, saying hello and glad to be here.”
