NHP trooper injured in Minden accident

MINDEN – A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was injured early Saturday morning in an accident at the intersection of highways 395 and 88.

Trooper Dan Lopez was on duty and driving a marked NHP vehicle when he collided with another driver in the intersection.

The right front of the other driver’s vehicle struck the left front of the 2006 Ford Crown Victoria sedan Lopez was driving.

Lopez sustained minor injuries in the collision.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other East Fork medics responded to the scene. The crash was investigated by the sheriff’s office and the other driver was arrested at the scene for DUI.

NHP Sergeant Dean Buell transported Trooper Lopez from the crash scene to Carson Valley Medical Center in Gardnerville where he was treated and released.

He is still recovering and resting at home today.

Trooper Lopez is a five-year veteran with the Nevada Highway Patrol and is assigned to the Carson City and Minden areas. He also serves as one of the public information officers for NHP-Northern Command West. Prior to joining NHP, Trooper Lopez spent 15 years working for the Nevada Department of Transportation.
