No body found after search of Cascade Lake

Tribune staff report

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office units are investigating a hiker’s report of a floating body Cascade Lake.

On Wednesday, a South Lake Tahoe resident was hiking on a trail near the shoreline on the northeast portion of the lake. She said a body floated up toward the surface of the water then sank back down and went out of view. The hiker returned to the lake and directed a sheriff’s deputy to the location.

A CALSTAR helicopter searched the shoreline but didn’t find any evidence of a floating body.

El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search & Rescue volunteers searched the water, but also didn’t find a body.

On Thursday, members of the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and CALSTAR also searched the lake but didn’t find a body. Dive team members did find signs of beaver activity within the search area.

“During this search a piece of wood was the only floating object found,” Sgt. Steve Fleischmann said in a press release.
