No Ren Faire for Meyers

Gregory Crofton, Tahoe Daily Tribune

The Renaissance Faire will not be in Meyers.

Kelly Carlson, who now aims to produce the event at Bijou Community Park on Al Tahoe Boulevard, said she decided on Wednesday to withdraw the permit application she filed with the El Dorado County Planning Commission.

Carlson said she doesn’t look at all the money she has spent since February as a waste.

“The fair is what I’ve done since the sixth grade,” Carlson said. “I don’t look at it as (money) down the drain. It was a learning process … we are going to do this thing.”

Carlson said on Wednesday she applied for a permit from South Lake Tahoe, which owns Bijou. Carlson said she does not know when the city will let her know if it will issue a permit for the event, which would be May 30, June 1 and June 7-8.

Reflecting on her permit to have the fair in Meyers at the Tahoe Pines Campground, Carlson said she understands why people were concerned.

“It was a dangerous spot actually,” she said. “According to the CHP, it’s just not a good place to have that kind of traffic.”
