San Francisco’s NVO doesn’t discriminate when it comes to a groove.

The group, once a trio and now a four-piece, features guitar, bass, drums, synthesizers and “whatever else they find to channel the funk.”

NVO recently added vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Charles Darius to the mix of producer/guitarist Mike Laglia, drummer Greg Maximov and DJ Chuck Jones. The group plays a free show at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe’s Vinyl venue Saturday night and specializes in “bass-heavy rock, sci-fi funk and rave-hop.”

“NVO has provided support for a veritable ‘who’s who’ of live electronica, including Goldfish, The New Deal, Lotus, and Conspirator,” according to the band’s online biography. “They’ve shared a stage with other notable acts like Mark Farina, Sidecar Tommy (Beats Antique), JPOD, Gladkill, Fort Knox Five and Bernie Worrell (of P-Funk and the Talking Heads). Breakout performances at festivals like Gem and Jam, High Sierra and Burning Man have secured NVO as a ‘can’t miss’ late night act.

“NVO’s latest EP, “Night Vision Odyssey” is their most refined production to date, displaying a gamut of mid-tempo grooves, cinematic head-nodders and dance-floor destroyers.”

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe is located at 50 U.S. Highway 50 in Stateline.
