Obama appoints Carlson to TRPA

Tribune staff report

U.S. President Barack Obama has appointed Tim Carlson to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s 15-member Governing Board, according to a Thursday statement from the planning agency.

The presidential appointee is the lone non-voting member on the board.

Carlson has 40 years of government and business development experience, according to the statement.

Carlson’s most recent work in the field of renewable energy has earned him recognition as an alternative energy leader, according to the TRPA.

“The President has appointed someone with the background and experience needed to help TRPA and the Governing Board forge ahead into the future,” TRPA Executive Director Joanne Marchetta said in the statement. “Tim comes with a vast amount of environmental and development expertise, and a long history with Tahoe having lived first part and now full-time in the Basin.”

Carlson, a Nevada resident, has worked with more than 1,000 domestic and worldwide companies, often bringing together diverse groups of stakeholders, according to the statement.

“I am looking forward to learning and working with the Board and staff to help accomplish the goals of the TRPA and the people it serves,” Carlson said. “It is my hope that I can contribute along-side those that have put so much time and energy into protecting our beautiful Lake Tahoe.”

Carlson replaces Josh Reid, the son of U.S. Senator Harry Reid, who rarely attended Governing Board meetings.
