Obit, Edith Jane Sullwold

Memorial services are pending for Edith Jane Sullwold, who died Jan. 29, 2002, at Sacramento, Calif. She was 77.

Mrs. Sullwold was born Feb. 5, 1924, at Chicago, Ill., to the Rev. Dr. Louis W. and Edith R. Goebel. She grew up in the Midwest and received her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Illinois and her Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Chicago. Her father, who was an evangelical and reformed minister, performed her marriage to Richard H. Sullwold on Sept. 20, 1960. She spent the majority of her time counseling and teaching counselors and was a renowned Jungian child psychotherapist. A world traveler, she taught and counseled in Europe and Africa as well as many other places with her husband. She had been a resident of South Lake Tahoe for the past several years. A published author and film maker, she touched those around her with a remarkable ability to love and heal. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Sullwold of South Lake Tahoe, and David Sullwold of Lake Oswego, Ore.; daughter, Carol Mulholland of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; sister, Ruth Hashbarger of Missouri; numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. She was predeceased by her husband in March 2001.

Memorial services will take place in March and April at Palos Verdes, Calif., and in Massachusetts.
