Obit — Gaspar Chamarro

Services took place in Spain for Gaspar Chamarro Sr., who died peacefully Sept. 25, 2002, at Pamplona, Spain. He was 73.

Mr. Chamarro was born Jan. 6, 1929, at Garzain, Spain, and had been a 32-year resident of South Lake Tahoe. His father had lived in the U.S. in the early 1900s before returning to Spain. The stories he told helped his son decide to move to America in the mid-1950s to become a sheepherder, first in Arizona and then California. He also lived in Reno, Nev., where he worked in a restaurant before moving to Lake Tahoe in 1963. Mr. Chamarro had been employed in the coin room at both Harrah’s Lake Tahoe and Caesars Tahoe. He enjoyed reading, drinking wine and the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife Benita Chamarro; son and daughter-in-law, Gaspar Jr. and Jo Anna Chamarro; and granddaughter, Haley Rose Chamarro.



Services and interment took place Sept. 26, 2002, at Garzain, Spain.
