Obit — Jim Howes

Funeral services will take place Dec. 7 for Jim Howes, who died of leukemia Dec. 3, 2002, at Washoe Medical Center, Reno, Nev. He was 71.

Mr. Howes was born May 13, 1931, at Toronto, Canada, to Walter Howes and Lilly Harrison, the seventh of 12 children. He moved his family to Southern California in 1956, relocated to South Lake Tahoe in 1972, and had been a resident of Gardnerville, Nev., for the past 17 years. He worked as a general contractor and was a member of the Elks Lodge in California. Mr. Howes loved his family and enjoyed fishing, camping, country music, woodworking, friends and his pets.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Howes of Gardnerville; sons and daughters-in-law, James Walter and Lee Howes of Citrus Heights, Calif., Guy and Karen Howes of Roseville, Calif., and Paul and Julie Howes of South Lake Tahoe; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Mike Weaver; and grandchildren, Jimmy, Jill, Mikey, Sarah, Megan, Jesse and Katelyn. He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Bertha Howes in 1979.



Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Dec. 7 at FitzHenry’s Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville. Interment will follow at Happy Homestead Cemetery, South Lake Tahoe.
