Obit — Melchio ‘Mike’ Gonzi

A funeral Mass will take place Dec. 6 for Melchio “Mike” Gonzi, who died peacefully Dec. 1, 2002, at his home in Minden, Nev., with his wife and children at his side. He was 79.

Mr. Gonzi was a native of Malta and had been employed as a Naval shipyard carpenter. He had been a resident of South Lake Tahoe for 12 years prior to moving to Minden seven years ago. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing and entertaining people with his wonderful singing and his interesting stories of Malta. He was a member of the Maltese American Club of San Francisco and St. Gall Catholic Church in Minden.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Gonzi; and eight children, Martha Flynn, Paul Gonzi, Lawrence Gonzi, Josie Floth, Janice Simi, Mary Gonzi, Michael Gonzi and Caroline Mattox; brother, Methusalem Gonzi of Victoriosa, Malta; sister, Ruth Baldacchino of San Francisco; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.



A rosary and funeral Mass will take place at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Placerville.

Remembrances may be made to Vista Care Hospice, 6225 Neil Road, Reno, NV 89511.
