Margaret Mary (Marge) Sylvester (Haughey)

1949 ~ 2018

Margaret Mary (Marge) Sylvester (Haughey) passed away peacefully at her home in Honolulu, Hawaii on December 4, 2018. Marge, 94, celebrated her 66th wedding anniversary to her beloved husband, Manuel Reginald (Manny) Sylvester on November 29th.

Marge was born in National Park, New Jersey, and moved to Honolulu with her mother in 1949. She was a loving wife and mother and is survived by her husband, Manny; children Manuel Reginald (Randy) Sylvester, Jr. (Linda), Thomas Ryder (Tom) Sylvester, Mary Suzanne (Sue) Palumbo, Timothy Francis (Tim) Silvestre, and Julia Michele Moody; as well as eight grand- children, and many nieces and nephews.

Marge had a close relationship with Incline Village for over 50 years. She and Manny retired to the lake and lived there part-time for the past 30 years. They were among the happiest and most care free years of her life!

Marge was a committed volunteer at Holy Trinity Church and School when her children were young. She was also active in the CPA Wives’ Club and spent time on the golf course with friends and family. Marge enjoyed traveling with her loving husband, Manny, relatives, and friends. She was comfortable relaxing with a cold glass of wine (poured by Manny!) and eating pupus with friends on their terrace at Kahala Nui.

Marge’s beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes, and warm, welcoming personality will be missed by all who knew her, especially her husband Manny, the love of her life.

A Mass and celebration of Marge’s life will be held on January 12, 2019, at Mary, Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 4470 Aliikoa Street, Honolulu, Hawaii. Family visitation is from 9:30 – 10:00 am, public visitation is from 10:00 – 11:00 am, and Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Aloha attire. A reception will follow the service at the O’ahu Country Club’s Nu’uanu Ballroom, 150 Country Club Road, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96817. O’ahu’s phone: (808)595-6331. Private burial.
