Obituary: Marcellette “Jody” Underhill

After a long and courageous battle with her illness, Jody chose not to pursue further treatment and instead spend time with her loved ones until God called her home on October 8th. For 67 years Jody’s faith prevailed throughout her life. Her love for the Lord, family, and children was her signature. Her life’s dream was to someday be married, have children, and live in the mountains. Her dreams became realized with her marriage to John in 1975, 1st born son Matthew in 1977, 2nd born son Mitchell in 1979, and her daughter Corrie in 1982. Her joy was multiplied with the gift of five grandchildren and thirty-five years in Tahoe.

To know Jody and have her in our lives was a gift to all because of her gracious manner. We were drawn to her warmth and compassionate nature that exemplified love. With an open heart, she had a way of making every one of us feel special. Spending time with family and friends was Jody’s passion. She was the magnet that brought us all together. Her confidence, love and faith in the Lord, gave her strength when we were weak, kindness when we were guarded, and forgiveness when we were judgmental. Her mission was to share peace, joy, and love with the world around her. Loving children and showing them God’s grace was her specialty. With her beautiful voice she would teach hymns, nursery rhymes, and her favorite oldies. She was lovingly referred to as Amma Min (Grandma Mine in Icelandic.)

A natural provider of comfort and compassion with grace, Jody served as a flight attendant with American Airlines for twelve years, medical assistant with Dr. Robert Patton, and Dr. Gregory Ginn. After retiring, she continued to serve all those in need without hesitation or compensation. Jody ‘s greatest joy came from sharing God’s love with those around her.

Jody was predeceased by her parents, Warren and Margaret Romsos, brother Brian Romsos, and son Mitchell Underhill. Jody is survived by her husband John, son Matthew (Danielle), daughter Corrie (Brian) Aggers, daughter-in-law Sarah Underhill, grandchildren Mattison, Marin, Drew, Mason, Cedar, nephew Shane (Mollie, Lars and Lauren) Romsos, her loving extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held November 9th, 2013 at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church in South Lake Tahoe at 1pm. Jody requested donations be made to the Cancer League of South Lake Tahoe or Barton Hospice.
