Obituary: Donald Kieth Gard

No services are planned for Donald Keith Gard, who died Jan. 16, 2000, of complications of surgery at Barton Memorial Hospital. He was 77.

Mr. Gard was born March 10, 1922, at Union City, Ohio, to John Henry and Edna Lucille (Butt) Gard. He had been a resident of Stateline, Nev., for the past 33 years and had been retired from Harrah’s Lake Tahoe for 20 years. Mr. Gard was a Navy pilot in the Pacific during World War II and was a 24-year member of the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was a member of VFW Post 2627 at South Lake Tahoe, American Legion Post 158 at Union City, Ind., Mens Golf Association and Seniors Bowling League.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Esther Gard of Stateline; son, Donald Keith Gard Jr. of Alameda, Calif.; daughters, Esty Gard Childress of Stateline, Linda Gard Munsen of Minden, Nev., and Karen Gard Varnell of Sacramento, Calif.; granddaughters, Leigh Halvorson of Carson City, Nev., Shay Childress of Stateline, Shoshanna Gard and Asia Gard of Alameda; Jessica Varnell of Sacramento and Mary Ann Varnell of Reno, Nev. He was predeceased by his parents.
