Tribune

Services are pending for Edwin James Vallier Sr., who died Dec. 25, 2001, following a heart attack at his son’s home in South Lake Tahoe. He was 84.

Mr. Vallier was born Nov. 13, 1917, at Oakland, Calif., a descendant of 1849 California and 1898 Nome, Alaska, pioneer families. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A graduate of the University of San Francisco and Stanford University, he was a retired educator.

Mr. Vallier loved Lake Tahoe and stayed at the resorts surrounding the lake every summer. In 1978 he was one of the first people to purchase a lot and build a home when Glenbrook, Nev., was developed. His favorite saying was that he drove Pioneer Trail when it was just a dirt road.

Survivors include his son Edwin James Vallier Jr. and his wife, Jackie, of South Lake Tahoe; son, Mark Talbot Vallier of Missoula, Mont.; one grandson and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Carol Scheffel Vallier, in 1998.

Mr. Vallier was a member of the Neptune Society and his ashes will be scattered outside the Golden Gate of the state he loved so much.
