Obituary- Gary Edward Daum
Memorial services will be Saturday, Sept. 15 for lifetime South Lake Tahoe resident Gary Edward Daum, who died of a brain aneurysm Sept. 7, 2001, at Barton Memorial Hospital. He was 38.
Because of the lack of facilities at Lake Tahoe, Mr. Daum was born Nov. 1, 1962, at Carson City, Nev. He attended schools at South Lake Tahoe and graduated from South Tahoe High School in 1980. He then double-phased the automotive technical course at Denver Automotive and Diesel College in Denver, Colo., graduating in six months instead of a year. He returned home and resumed his position as mechanic with his father, Jerry, and brother, Greg, at Tahoe Paradise Chevron, which Jerry opened in 1965. On Oct. 28, 2000, he married Rebecca “Becky” Jones at Lake Tahoe Community Church.
Mr. Daum enjoyed the challenge in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles. He loved fishing, golfing, snowmobiliing and race cars. He earned the 1987 Super Stock Champion at Silverstate Raceway driving his car No. 5. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family, friends and co-workers.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Daum of South Lake Tahoe; mother, Margie Daum of South Lake Tahoe; brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Carol Daum of South Lake Tahoe; stepson, Frankie Jones of South Lake Tahoe; grandmother, Hilda McMurray of Carson City, Nev.; nephews, Jake and Luke Daum of South Lake Tahoe; aunts and uncles, Norman and Barbara McMurray of Smith Valley, Nev., Bill and Marilyn Howard Baker of Galt, Calif., Oscar and Bev Hall of Lincoln City, Ore., Jim and Laura Daum of Fairfield, Calif., Richard and Rene Geise of Yuba City, Calif., Todd and Peggy Lund of Sacramento, Calif., and George Daum of Wendover, Nev. He was predeceased by his father, Jerry Daum, in 1999.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, 2733 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Private family inurnment is planned.
