Obituary: Gene Robert "Geno" Markwardt

Memorial services will be Tuesday, March 20 for Gene Robert “Geno” Markwardt, who died March 17, 2001, at Barton Memorial Hospital. He was 65.

Mr. Markwardt was born May 2, 1935, at Bisbee, N.D., to William and Clara Markwardt. He spent his childhood in Bisbee community. Upon completion of high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received an honorable discharge Feb. 4, 1963. He was an active member of the South Lake Tahoe American Legion and served as post commander. For the past 35 years he worked for several taxi cab companies. The most recent was Paradise Taxi.

Survivors include his mother, Clara Markwardt Person of Devils Lake, N.D.; brother, Gary Markwardt of Newport, Wash.; sisters, Jan Day of Tumwater, Wash., Lyn Rea of Wichita, Kans., Carol Moore of Lakewood, Colo., and Nita Person of Devils Lake; 13 nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William Markwardt; brother Duane Markwardt; and sister, Ruth Swanson.



Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at McFarlane Mortuary Chapel, followed by military services and inurnment at Happy Homestead Cemetery.

Donations in Mr. Markwardt’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
