OBITUARY: Helen Wyant

August 2, 1909 ~ December 11, 2011

Helen will be deeply missed and remembered with much love and laughter.

Helen Wyant, 102, of South Lake Tahoe, died peacefully on Sunday December 11, 2011. Helen was born in Alameda, CA on August 2, 1909 to Helena and Donald Stegman. During World War II, she was one of the “Rosie the Riveters,” working at Douglas Aircraft, the aerospace giant at the time. In her 20s, Helen was a model and worked in sales for highend retail shops in the Bay Area and Long Beach, working in management until her retirement.

Helen’s last husband ( her quote, “I was a busy girl.” ) was George Wyant. They were married for 50 years, living most of that time in Long Beach, CA. Gatherings with Helen and George were like witnessing a vaudeville show, with their lively, hilarious one-liners. All who remember Helen maintained her quick wit even after George’s passing.

Marking Helen’s 100TH Birthday, the family arranged for a Borges Carriage ride, lunch at a restaurant on the beach of Lake Tahoe and a trip to see her beloved San Francisco Giants ( they won ).

Helen is survived by her niece Nancy Gayner; great nephew Greg Gayner; great niece Kim Gayner; and great great nephew Tyler Dreager.

Helen’s family is grateful for the loving care of the Skilled Nursing Staff at Barton Hospital.

The family will have a private memorial in the Spring.
