A memorial service will be held in May for Gardnerville resident Joe Buffo, 84, who died April 3, 2011. He was born Aug. 17, 1926 in Pittsburg, Calif.

Mr. Buffo was a technical sergeant in the U.S. Army, and served during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. Mr. Buffo and his wife, Ann, built their first home in 1955 in Pebble Beach, Calif. They moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1964, where he owned the Tahoe Bottle Shop, and after 40 years they moved to Gardnerville. He was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, charter member of Knights of Columbus at Carmel Mission and served in Optimists and Rod and Gun Club. Mr. Buffo enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Ann Buffo; sons Dan (Deborah) Buffo of Santa Cruz, Calif., Dave (Elaine) Buffo of Gardnerville, Mike (Renee) Buffo of Gardnerville; daughter Teri (Pete) Kolp of Truckee, Calif., 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
