Joel Duane Dunham

Joel Duane Dunham passed away Jan 11th at his home in S. Lake Tahoe. He was a long time resident of Tahoe known fondly as the “old man” by his many friends. Joel lived life to the fullest! He grew up in Covina, Ca where he was an outstanding high school football player and an avid surfer. He attended San Jose State and was subsequently drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. As luck would have it, his tour of duty took him to the Hawaiian Islands where he served as a military life guard. After his tour of duty, he moved to S. Lake Tahoe where he lived for more than 40 years. Joel was a true outdoorsman: an avid skier and golfer, but his true passion was fly fishing with his buddies and his faithful dog Sofie, especially on the East Fork of the Carson River. Joel will be missed by the many friends he made over the years. We will always remember him with a smile on his face and a “skip in his step.” He received loving care and help by close friends and neighbors who assisted him in his final days. Joel is survived by his Uncle “Run-em” Dunham, and many cousins including Mike Dunham, and Royce and Betty Gladden. There will be a “celebration of Joel’s life” planned for the Spring.
