Obituary: John Herbert McNerney

Services are pending for John Herbert McNerney, who died of a heart attack on Jan. 16, 2000, at his home in South Lake Tahoe. He was 88.

Mr. McNerney was born July 13, 1911, at Erie, Pa., and was raised in the San Jose, Calif., area. He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served aboard the USS Hornet and the USS Enterprise. While in San Jose he was employed at a hotel where he worked his way up from bellhop to supply supervisor. Mr. McNerney came to South Lake Tahoe in 1956 and worked at the post office and various gas stations. He left Tahoe in 1975, but returned in 1976. He was a member of the Lake Tahoe Elks Lodge and received numerous awards including Elk of the Year. Mr. McNerney had many friends and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his cousins, Harold Richardson of Carson City, Nev., and Encell Richardson of San Jose.



Services are pending and private inurnment is planned.
