OBITUARY: John Palmiro Cattoni

October 22, 1923 – February 18, 2012

John was born in Pocatello, Idaho. What an incredible story he had … his family moved back to Italy when John was one year old and there they remained until World War II broke out. A knock on their door by the Third Reich informed him that he had to

fight for Mussolini and his country. John stated he was an American citizen; however they replied that if he did not join them, he and his family would be killed. John agreed to go with them only to run into the hills, becoming a WWII Partisan … a true Veteran of our United States.

John moved back to the United States in 1946 and met his wife-to-be in New York City, NY; they fell in love and were married in 1950. John worked at Harrah’s South Shore Room, South Lake Tahoe, NV as a Captain from 1960 until he retired in 1985. He was loved and admired by top celebrities, family and friends from all over. John was an avid gardener, golfer and an incredible fisherman.

John is survived by his wife of 61 years, Caroline Cattoni; daughter Lynda Cattoni-Shafer; son Greg Cattoni; sister Claudia Spondello; sister-in-laws Betty Cattoni and Gloria Cattoni; brother-in-law Umberto Marciasini; Godchildren and several nieces and nephews.
