Obituary — Marissa Caitlin Bassett

Tribune

A celebration of life will take place Sept. 19 for Marissa Caitlin Bassett, who died Sept. 2, 2003, at Washoe Medical Center, Reno from injuries sustained when she was struck by a vehicle while on her way to South Tahoe High School. She was 15.

Marissa was born June 29,1988, at Sacramento, Calif., and was a resident of Nevada City, Calif., prior to moving to South Lake Tahoe four years ago. A freshman at South Tahoe High School, she was talented in art and writing and enjoyed expressing herself with words. Marissa loved the outdoors and Lake Tahoe. She snowboarded, but her real love was skateboarding. Avril Lavigne was her idol and her friends often said Marissa look like Lavigne, a description she adored. She constantly played Lavigne’s music on her stereo and posters of the singer lined her walls. She was active with the youth group at Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship.

She is survived by her mother, Teddi Bassett of South Lake Tahoe; father, Robert Bassett of Santa Cruz, Calif.; sister, Heather Bassett of Nevada City; brothers, Cody Bassett of Santa Cruz and Casey, Beau and Michael Bassett of South Lake Tahoe; paternal grandparents, William and Jeanne Bassett of Pacifica, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Teddy Post of Ivyland, Pa.; maternal grandfather, Richard Bitzer of Boulder, Colo.; aunts and uncles, Glenn and Tamara Schneider of Pennsylvania and William and Kathleen Bassett of Redwood City, Calif.; and four cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal step-grandfather, Gerald Post.

A celebration of life will begin at 6 p.m. Sept. 19 at Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship, 3580 Blackwood Ave., South Lake Tahoe.

Donations may be made to the Trust Fund for Marissa Bassett at any branch of El Dorado Savings to benefit a journalism scholarship, a living memorial and Club Live, all at South Tahoe High School.
