Mitchell Ray Riddle, aged 70, passed away surrounded by the love of those who knew him best on November 11, 2025. He was born in San Diego, CA, the son of Helen and Howard Riddle. His family moved to Orland, CA in 1962 and there under the guidance of his Grandpa Bert, he became an avid and skilled fisherman. He had a natural talent for building and woodworking, creating things that were both useful and beautiful.
Mitch moved to Tahoe in 1976 where his mother had relocated and for 45 years he worked as a bartender, perfecting his craft behind the bar and becoming a confidant to many. He was not just a master of mixing drinks but an exceptional listener who offered comfort and advice and sometimes criticism to his patrons, many of whom became lifelong friends. He later welcomed his greatest joy-his son, Hunter. He loved nothing more than sharing his passions with him: hunting and fishing in the mountains, racing horses, travelling especially to Alaska, the place that always felt like home to his spirit.
Mitch’s love of the outdoors and adventure was evident to all who knew him. Besides fishing he was also an enthusiastic hunter, and he enjoyed wild water rafting, cooking delicious meals for his friends and family, tending to his garden, reading, and enjoying rock and country music. His deep velvet voice could be heard crooning his favorites.
Mitchell’s home was also a haven for animals, especially the loving dogs he raised and trained over the years. His deep connection with animals was matched only by the affection he showed to all living things. Mitch offered shelter to many friends in need and fed them well. His homemade soups and cookies were treasured by patrons and friends alike. A collector of wildlife art and an accomplished photographer, Mitch, saw the world with appreciation and curiosity.
He is survived by his son, Hunter, his sister Joan and his twin sister Susan, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Rollin and his mother Helen who lived to be 103 years old.
A celebration of life will be held later. Mitch will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his generosity, and humorous stubbornness. His stories, witty remarks and playful Scottish attitude will linger in our hearts forever. Rest in peace, dear Mitch, until we meet again.
