Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

Patricia Dean “Patti” French died of natural causes April 9, 2004, in a local care facility at Brookings, Ore. She was 79.

Patti was born Oct. 26, 1924, at Berkeley, Calif., the only child of Gordon Wilbur and Thelma Eda (Croft) Finch. She was raised in Sacramento, Calif., and graduated from Sacramento High School. Following school she worked briefly at the Sacramento Bee before marrying Francis Barton French Nov. 14, 1943. Patti became a traditional military wife as the family followed Mr. French’s military career. They were stationed in several places. They lived in South Lake Tahoe from 1964 to 1998, and resided at Crescent City, Calif., from 1998 to 2001, before moving to Brookings.

Patti had a great sense of humor, was friendly to all and had a genuine interest in others. While her children were young she helped with Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts and had a gift for making the family home comfortable wherever they were stationed. She loved good food and was an excellent cook. She was artistic and enjoyed crafting and painting. She treasured the beach and loved basking in the sun.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudia French of Concord, Calif.; and son, Stephen French of Crescent, City. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband in 1982.

Memorials in Patti’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2350 Oakmont Way, Suite 205, Eugene, OR 97401.

Cremation was under the direction of Redwood Memorial Chapel in Brookings.
