Obituary – Richard Eugene ‘Gene’ Davis

Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 18 for Richard Eugene “Gene” Davis, who died Aug. 7, 2001, at Carson City, Nev. He was 83.

Mr. Davis was born May 13, 1918, at Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a resident of South Lake Tahoe for 32 years, moving here in 1943. He and his wife, Louise, lived in a tent while they built their first log home in the Al Tahoe area. He was a carpenter and worked on many of the structures around Tahoe, eventually settling in at the cabinet shop at the old Sahara Tahoe. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii.

Mr. Davis loved life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gold panning and hiking and spent a lot of time in the Tahoe wilderness. He was a creative man, who enjoyed playing musical instruments, painting, carving, gardening or whatever he could get his hands on. He will be greatly missed by many people.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Louise Davis; children, Marc Davis and Carol Goforth; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at FitzHenry’s Funeral Home, Carson City, Nev.
