Obituary: Richard Hale Sullwold

Recognition services will be conducted at Palos Verdes, Calif., later in April for Richard Hale Sullwold, who died March 27, 2001, at Carson City, Nev. He was 85.

Mr. Sullwold was born March 8, 1916, at St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Southern California at the age of 12. After graduation from the University of California, Berkeley in 1941, he became an aerospace engineer for North American Aviation, where he worked until 1978. He and his wife resided in Palos Verdes Estates until 1981. At that time they moved to Haydenville, Mass., where he painted and made furniture and other artwork during retirement. They traveled extensively during the past 20 years and had resided at South Lake Tahoe for the past several years.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Sullwold of South Lake Tahoe; children, Carole Mulholland of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Thomas Sullwold of South Lake Tahoe and David Sullwold of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and seven grandchildren.
