Obituary: Robert Roy "Bob" Rasmussen

Memorial services will take place in July for longtime South Lake Tahoe resident Robert Roy “Bob” Rasmussen, who died Jan. 31, 2001, at Santa Cruz, Calif., following a brief hospitalization. He was 86.

Mr. Rasmussen was born Nov. 12, 1914, at Chippewa Falls, Wis., began his love affair with Lake Tahoe in the early 1950s. He moved his family from Kailua, Hawaii, to South Lake Tahoe in 1968, after accepting a transfer with the Federal Aviation Administration in Burlingame, Calif. He also chose to retire at Lake Tahoe. Mr. Rasmussen was an accomplished aviator, avid football fan and golfer. A colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, he shared his love of flying and his flying skills by teaching youth to fly gliders in the 1960s.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Eloise Rasmussen of Capitola, Calif.; sons, Robert Rasmussen of Capitola and Ron Rasmussen of Fairfield, Calif.; daughter, Nancy Mitchell of Lakewood, Calif.; grandchildren, Michael and Sean Rasmussen of Capitola, Ryan and Sarah Rasmussen of South Lake Tahoe, Amanda and Molly Mitchell of Denver, Colo., and Katherine Mitchell Winn of Provo, Utah; and great-granddaughter, Alexis Brooke Winn of Provo.

Memorial services will take place at South Lake Tahoe in July 2001.
