Obituary-Thomas C. Lemon

Tahoe Daily Tribune Staff Reports

At his request no services are planned for Thomas C. Lemon, who died April 2, 2004, at Carson City, Nev. He was 84.

Thomas was born Aug. 10, 1919, to homesteaders Frank and Clara Lemon at Lingle, Wyo. The family moved to Southern California where he graduated from Burbank High School. He enlisted in the Navy in May 1942 and saw active duty aboard the U.S.S. Almach in both the Atlantic and Pacific. The ship was torpedoed off the coast of Gilbrater, was refitted and then served in the Pacific, landing Marines in most of the major battles. He received an honorable discharge in November 1945. While in the service in San Diego, Calif., Thomas met his wife, Irene, who was a Navy WAVE.

The couple moved from Woodland Hills, Calif., to Lake Tahoe in 1957, so they have witnessed many changes. Thomas worked as a painting contractor until his retirement in 1984. He enjoyed the great outdoors and had a real appreciation of all the beauty of nature. He especially enjoyed RV travel and golf.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene Lemon of South Lake Tahoe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Pauline Hudder and Naoma Van Saun.

A family celebration of life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care or a charity of choice.
