OBITUARY: Walterman "Pat" Jay

Walterman “Pat” Jay, born February 14, 1916, passed away on March 29, 2010 at the Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, California.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Orene Jay and grandson Dennis Gibbs. He is survived by his four children: Gent Jay (Donna Jay) of Castro Valley; Sharon Poore (Gerald Poore), Lake Tahoe; Kathy Turner, (Steve Turner) Roseville; Bev Herrington (Mike Herrington), Sierra City. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

For the last several years, Pat enjoyed spending his winters in Palm Desert and his summers in the mountains at Sierra City. He retired from Heavenly Valley Ski Resort in 1981. Dad enjoyed his occupation of heavy equipment operator and worked on major construction projects throughout California.

He proudly served with the 90th Div 359 Ref AT Co in the U.S. Arm during the WWII. He was in the Normandy Invasion first wave on “D” Day. Pfc. Jay was wounded in action 25 miles from Paris and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery.

The grave-side service was held at Arbor Vita on Thursday, April 01, 2010 at 1:00.
