Offer up the alternative to libations
With more than half of New Year’s weekend traffic fatalities attributed to alcohol, this season’s party could be just as spectacular without the bubbly.
Seasonal, fruity and fun drinks can be a hit with friends without inebriating them.
Try these liquor-less libations:
Black Cherry Champagne
Partyers can toast away without worrying about the next day’s hangover with this traditional New Year’s drink.
Ingredients:
-1 bottle alcohol-free champagne n lemon zest
– black cherry juice n superfine sugar
– Black or maraschino cherries, with stems
1. Sugar-frost two tall champagne glasses
2. Fill glasses with 2/3 chilled champagne and 1/3 chilled cherry juice
3. Garnish with a cherry caressed by a piece of lemon zest. Serves at least two.
n Sinful Sangria
This year’s fiesta-goers don’t need liquor to live la vida loca.
Pump up the Enrique Iglesias, Selena or Santana and toast with this traditional Spanish drink.
Ingredients:
n 2 liters alcohol-free red wine n 2 Golden Delicious apples
n 1 liter Concord grape juice n 2 red apples
n 10 fresh oranges n 2 lbs. seedless grapes
1. Spread grapes in a single layer on a baking sheet. Freeze overnight.
2. Cut oranges into small wedges. Dice apples into large chunks.
3. Combine oranges, apples, wine and grape juice in a large serving bowl. Chill overnight.
4. Add frozen grapes immediately before serving. Serves 20.
