Officials look for dog after it bites child

A 7-year-old boy was bitten in the leg by a dog Thursday morning at a bus stop on the corner of Kickapoo St. and North Upper Truckee Rd. and El Dorado County Animal Control is now looking for the animal.

It is described as a medium sized, black and white mixed breed with medium length hair, and if it is not found the boy will have to receive a series of rabies shots.

Anyone who has seen the dog, or who knows where it lives should call Animal Control at (530) 777-1766. If the dog is found it will be isolated for 10 days to determine if it is healthy before being returned to its owner.

The boy was not seriously hurt but rabies shots, while not so painful as they used to be, are highly unpleasant according to the public health department.

There are approximately 10 dog bites a month reported in South Lake Tahoe and this was one of two that occurred Thursday.
