Officials seek dog-bite victim

El Dorado County officials are trying to track down a woman who was attacked by a pit bull June 30.

They said they have found a few dogs matching the description of the one that bit her, but the woman can’t be found to make a positive identification. The woman also may need treatment for possible exposure to rabies.

El Dorado County Animal Control Senior Officer Robert Gerat said the woman gave them false information about herself. She had claimed to be Lynette Defalco, 51, of South Lake Tahoe. Gerat said she also claimed to have been a veterinary technician.

The dog attacked outside Hoss Hoggs, a bar and restaurant at 2543 U.S. Highway 50, when “Defalco” kneeled down to pet it. Doctors treated the woman at Barton Hospital for two days before releasing her.

“She needs to contact El Dorado County Health Department, identify herself, and discuss the possibility of going through some post-rabies treatment since the dog has not been located,” Gerat said.

Gerat said rabies is not common in animals at the South Shore, but he knows of two cases in which rabies was found in bats on the West Shore.

The dog is a medium-size pit bull type and has a black coat with white spots. Anyone with information about the dog or the person it bit is asked to call (530) 577-1766.
