Local high school youth will be the entertainment highlights of this year’s Older Americans Day celebration scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 8 at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville.

Dancers from Union Mine High School will kick off the entertainment at 11 a.m. with high energy and poise. At 11:30 a.m. the sounds of the El Dorado High jazz band will continue to ignite the stage. Following lunch guests will have an opportunity to enjoy the vocal harmony of the Ponderosa High School choir at 12:45 p.m.

May is National Older Americans Month. The Commission on Aging of El Dorado County hosts the annual Older Americans Day event to celebrate the contribution and achievements made by local senior citizens. Several special presentations, including the Senior of the Year award, help showcase the exceptional older adult volunteers at work in the community. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. in collaboration with the El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program and the Mobile Kitchen Unit of the California Department of Forestry. Gift baskets and other surprises will be given away at 1 p.m.

The event is free and open to the general public. Lunch reservations are needed by May 2. The suggested donation for lunch is $2 for adults 60 years and older and $3.25 for all others.

To make a reservation and for more information call the Senior Nutrition Program at (530) 621-6161.
