One dead in North Lake Tahoe airplane crash

One person is dead in an airplane crash that took place this morning, about 2 miles north of Incline Village, Federal Aviation Administration officials said today.

A Cessna 172 took off from Palo Alto, Calif., at 8:10 p.m. on Thursday. The aircraft had one person on board and crashed in a remote area north of Incline, at some time this morning, said FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.

Officials say they are unsure of the aircraft’s flight pattern or when it crashed.

The name of the pilot is not being released, as next if kin has yet to be identified, officials said.

The crash area is only accessible by helicopter, officials said, and emergency personnel are staging at the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Incline Village Substation, near the intersection of state routes 28 and 431 in Incline Village.
