Fire crews go above and beyond

It is a double-edged sword when we take the opportunity to commend the firefighters and other crews who helped prevent this week’s wildfire from being worse than it was.

Words cannot begin to express our gratitude for their efforts and unflinching work ethic when it means putting their lives at risk. It’s a job that few can do. It’s a job we all should respect. It took more than 700 people to contain the blaze.

The other edge of the sword is that our praise for these brave men and women always comes after some tragic event. In this case two people were killed when there plane went down. Then 294 acres of forest burned.

Perhaps we should let these dedicated individuals know how much they are appreciated. Let them know before the next fire rages out of control.
