Kudos & kindness: Retro Races a sucess at South Lake Tahoe

On Sept. 20, South Tahoe high and middle schools hosted the Retro Races at the high school. Over 350 middle schoolers and nearly 250 high school boys and girls competed as individuals or on relay teams over a hilly, two-mile course. Many of the athletes were dressed in wild costumes as well.

The South Shore teams would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped put on such a great event. A big thanks goes out to the high school administration for supporting the race, and the extra assistance from the campus custodial and security staff for making sure everything went smooth and athletes and parents were safe.

Hats off to race starter Austin Angell for getting all the racers to the start line and off and running, and Jake Hurwitz as our Retro MC. Pats on the back to our great concessions group, including Jamba Juice, and apples donated by Chris from Hooverville Farms, from the local farmers market. Also, a round of applause to Les Wright with RunTahoe.com; and the Lake Tahoe Marathon for all the donated, vintage T-shirts that were handed out to all the high school participants.

And finally, thanks to the awesome parents who gave of their time to help set up the course, time, course monitoring and clean up, as well as all the support they provide to the South Tahoe Cross Country athletes throughout the season.
